I bet you have a pretty good mental picture of this person. You probably have conjured up a name and muttered a few expletives about a former client, politician, or boss. Ironically, the dominant personality frequently leads organizations and becomes a decision-maker because of their historic relentless pursuit of results. The American business community appreciates the do-whatever-it-takes leader who drives profitability and gets extraordinary execution.
One of my favorite thought leaders is John Maxwell. One of John’s famous quotes is…” Leadership is influence, nothing more, nothing less.” So my suggestions on influencing a dominant personality suggests a bit of manipulation. If you want to be more influential with a strategy or decision or successful selling your product, you should understand who you are selling to and how to get them to value your pitch seriously. That’s not manipulation. It’s called success.
